Grinding is an application that is often called de-burring, fettling, polishing, sanding and/or buffing. The choice of words used usually depends on the severity of the application. The removal of material with coarse abrasives is usually called grinding. The actions that result in the operator using very fine abrasives is often referred to as polishing or buffing. Sanding is a term that normally refers to grinding wood. Before a person selects the correct abrasive wheel they will need to know the which product it will be used on.
